Emerging Professionals GIS Open House
Presented by City of Portland Corporate GIS and Portland Community College
Open to the GIS Community!
Emerging Professionals in GIS (less than five years of experience) and the wider GIS community are invited to attend a mixer and presentations with staff performing representative GIS work at Metro. For those interested in GIS roles in the public sector, come get a taste for the types of work these positions entail. Refreshments will be provided.
When: February 26th, 2026 2:30-5:00 pm
Where: 1120 SW 5th Ave, Portland, OR 97204
Leah Hing Room 108 (straight back through 1st floor lobby on the right, past elevators and bathrooms - no need to check in at front desk)
Hybrid Event: Register for remote attendance. The hybrid event begins at 3:00 pm. There is no need to register if attending in person.

Presenting the following Metro staff:
Madeline Steele, Data & Applications Manager
Madeline Steele is a manager in Oregon Metro’s Data Resource Center, where she leads the teams responsible for the Regional Land Information System (RLIS) and geospatial application development. She has over 15 years of experience in the geospatial field, a Master’s in Geography from PSU, and PMP certification.
Samantha Wright, GIS Specialist
Samantha works on the Data Resource Center's analytics team, focusing on designing data collection tools and community mapping. She also maintains Metro's boundary data and leads regional aerial photo acquisition projects at Metro.
Lindsey Karr, GIS Specialist
At Metro, Lindsey manages data about our parks and natural areas and also supports scientists, land managers, park planners, and other staff with a variety of mapping and data needs.
Matt Hampton, Cartographic Design and GIS Specialist
At Metro Matt works as an embedded GIS analyst and cartographer in the Transportation Analysis and Performance group. He works with long range planners on developing analyses and building applications. Matt specializes in designing meaningful cartographic products that help guide policy and substantiate decision-making and has worked at Metro since receiving his Masters degree at PSU in Geography.
